What is Registered Massage Therapy?

Massage Therapy is a Regulated Health Profession in the Provence of Ontario and therefore  Massage Therapy should only be performed by a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT).  The Registered Massage Therapists’ Association of Ontario defines the practice of Massage Therapy as “the manipulation of soft tissues of the body including muscles, connective tissues, tendons, ligaments, and joints”.  Registered Massage Therapy is a health care option that can help alleviate the discomforts associated with everyday and occupational stresses, muscular over-use and many chronic pain conditions.

The Benefits of Massage Therapy

There are numerous health benefits that may be achieved through regular massage therapy treatments from a Registered Massage Therapist.  No matter whether your need is to have a moment of relaxation, reduce muscle tension, or attain relief from chronic pain, a therapeutic massage can enhance your overall sense of emotional & physical well-being all while helping you reach your personal health goals.

Massage Therapy can be an important part of your health maintenance plan by:

  • Reducing or eliminating pain

  • Improving joint mobility

  • Improving circulation

  • Improving lymphatic drainage

  • Reducing muscular tension

Massage therapy can be used in the treatment of both acute and chronic conditions as well as part of a preventative care program.  This includes sports training, injury prevention, on-going stress management, and more!

A Registered Massage Therapist can work with a wide variety of patients, of all ages, in the treatment of illness, injury rehabilitation and disability.

Today, Registered Massage Therapists employ their knowledge of human anatomy and physiology to combine traditional Swedish & modern massage therapy techniques along with other therapies, within their scope of practice, to treat their clients.
